DOUBLE TAKE: Stories That Make You Think Twice
Join us for a special community storytelling event, Double Take: Stories That Make You Think Twice. A diverse committee of students, faculty and staff will select ten storytellers from the UVA community that express a variety of identities and experiences, with a focus on the theme of building bridges. Joining these voices, President Ryan and Dr. Vivian Pinn will share their own stories as well. All stories will be told in front of a live audience and followed by a light reception. This event is free and open to the public.
- October 20, 2018
- 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Old Cabell Hall Auditorium
At its core, the theme – building bridges – is about forging connections. The health of a community depends on the strength of the connections within it. In this spirit, President Ryan wants to hear stories about bridges you’ve built – either at UVA or elsewhere – and what happened as a result. Stories can be funny, sad or anything in between. Whatever you want to share, we want to hear.
You can submit your story digitally or in-person through October 1. For digital submissions, please create a short video (five minutes or less) and submit through your UVA Box account. Submissions should be addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org and sent by October 1. For in-person submissions, stop by a StoryStream trailer, parked by Newcomb Hall and Monroe Hall, September 24 – 28. Or, sign up for one of the limited spots to record your story at Madison Hall. Both StoryStream and Madison Hall will provide storytellers with opportunities for coaching and peer feedback.
